Friday the 18th in Kentucky

This is our last day of touring. Tomorrow will be our last day on this caravan. First we visited White Hall Historic Site. This was a home built in 1799. It has 44 rooms and has about 10,000 sq. feet of living space. Remodeled in the 1860's it is the most beautiful mansion we have visited in the last two years of caravanning.

This was the home of Cassius Marcellus Clay who was a newspaper publisher, emancipationist, minister to Russia and friend of Abraham Lincoln. He may even be a distant relative to Mohammed Ali. Lots of history here.

Next we had lunch at a place called "Halls on the River." It is on the river and took some effort to find. Inside they have markers on the walls where the river has flooded over the years. Fine place to build I guess, but it was crowded and the food was pretty good. The coffee was excellent! The thing I disliked was the mashed potatoes had peelings in them, to me this is someone just too lazy to peel them.

Next we visited Boone Station Historic Site where Daniel decided the settlement of Boonsborough had become too crowded so in 1879 he moved his family and settled Boone's Station. At it's height the community had 15-20 families.

We retured home took a quick nap had a bite to eat, and walked over to see the "Tribute to the Legends" show at the Old Barn here in Renfro Valley. It was a high energy affair with some good picking and some singing. The programs here pre-date the Grand Ole Oprey, but the Oprey surpassed them in later years at Nashville. The programs still are going and they have some really big names here. Unfortunately, we have missed some and will miss the ones to come. Timing is everything. We did get to see them filming the program for RFD-TV and that was a plus. Some of the performers we will or have missed are: Vicki Lawrence, The Oak Ridge Boys, Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Asleep at the Wheel, Sammy Kershaw, Billy Ray Cyrus, and on and on. Now that we are aware of the place maybe we can come back.

Today is a free day until our final banquet this evening. Then to Jackson Center to get our trailer taken care of.

White Hall Mansion.

Us in the garden.

Lunch, the place was hard to find.

Fort Boonsborough where Daniel Boone's family lived before moving to Missouri.

Never an idle moment.

The docents were the best we have had.

More later.

See Ya! Barry and Shirley
