Hey y'all,

These pictures were taken on the 24th. We thought we would share some views of the landscape here in West Texas. The upper picture was taken of a tower that my dad helped build circa 1948. Mom and I drove out to see it erected. This can be seen along the highway just before Monahans, TX.

 This photo is just before Big Spring, TX where we stopped for the night, went Wal-Mart shopping etc. The photo shows what almost became a bad sand storm. Luckily it never really developed. Visibility, however, became very low.

We look at Lincoln, Bakersfield, and Sacramento weather and realize we left at the right time. We saw the bad weather in Memphis and also realize we are glad we were not earlier.

Right now Shirley is on the phone talking to Verizon, will it never end?

We traveled back to Wilcox, AZ. By accident in '08 we learned that this is the home of the cowboy movie star Rex Allen. Those of us old enough to remember seeing his movies suddenly become nostalgic for those days gone by. Those of you not old enough to remember seeing him have heard his voice in such Disney movies as "Charlie The Lonesome Cougar."

Below are pictures of beautiful downtown Wilcox. The bottom picture is our campsite at the Wilcox Elks Lodge. As you can see they have a crowding problem.

Since this is such exciting stuff we purchased a video of one of his movies and will watch it whenever we no longer have the need to remain glued to the Weather channel. Weather is no news to most of you but for pulling a trailer we are very concerned.

We spent two days here Monday and Tuesday nights and left on Wednesday. Everything was frozen, the highs were in the 60's and the nights were high 20's.

By the way the train tracks are very significant because we heard trains a lot...all night long.

Finally on the Road

We are now in Van Horn, Texas. This has already been an adventure. We got off late from Lincoln, did not get to Orange Grove. Weather drove us to Visalia for the first night and an oil slick caused us to miss our turn on 395 to Hemet so we learned a new and easier way to get to Hemet. We visited my aunt who celebrated her 98th birthday on Thursday. Our phone burned out so we could not contact anyone we would be late to the birthday party. Ultimately we arrived and had a nice visit with all the relatives. After three days in Hemet getting our phone fixed, waiting on torrential rains and snow down to 1000 feet, we headed eastward.

These are photos of the now famous Chuy's Restaurat here in Van Horn, TX. It seems, John Madden, stops here on his way to sporting events. We tried it and think maybe John Madden will eat anything. 

All in all it has taken us one week to get into the swing of things and get "back on the road."

Lincoln to Orange Grove RV Park, Bakersfield, CA

We are on the road again. We are leaving earlier than in prior years, so weather is a huge factor. All this "global warming" has made the roads rather icy in places. This caravan is the first of three Civil War caravans that will take us to Tennessee then down the Mississippi River to Louisiana.

We have no plans for the return trip but we are sure something will turn up that will require our attention.
As we travel eastward we hope to learn how to make our blog interesting. So for a while bear with us because we are not too adept at blogging yet.

The picture to the left is just before we left on our very first trip in '06. We knew nothing about WBCCI and the caravans then. We were just leaving on our first adventure. Now it's 75,000 miles later.
